The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) was awarded a $2,980,395 Cooperative Agreement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Tribal Public Health Capacity Building and Quality Improvement Umbrella Cooperative Agreement (CFDA 93.772) to enhance disease control programs, improve electronic laboratory reporting and informatics infrastructure, expand diagnostic testing capacity, activate response activities, and establish better collaboration and oversight for emerging infectious disease prevention and control efforts.

The funding will enable PDPH to continue and improve essential public health services for Philadelphia's diverse population of 1.6 million residents, many of whom face socioeconomic challenges that increase their vulnerability to infectious diseases. Key focus areas include strengthening cross-cutting approaches among epidemiology, laboratory, and health information systems; enhancing planning and surge capacity for response activities; and directing additional resources to reach the city's most vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, those who are incarcerated, and persons who actively use drugs.
