Description
Reducing healthcare-associated infections and containing AMR through detection and response in georgia - component 1 - detect and respond to infectious disease threats in healthcare facilities project title: development of a sentinel site surveillance system on healthcare-associated infections (HAIS) in georgia purpose an effective HAI surveillance system is inseparable from a seemingly different sphere - infection prevention and control, because as the quality of HAI data improves, IT also becomes easier to identify and target weaknesses and drivers of disease transmission. A capable HAI surveillance system should incorporate infection prevention strategies, and have an objective of lowering the spread of HAI. Sentinel based approach has been successfully applied in a number of countries for estimating the burden of HAIS to provide a robust data management platform, IT is necessary to use a data software for regularly collecting and analyzing local data at the sentinel site levels, which is simultaneously submitted and aggregated at a central level. Outcomes sentinel sites, selected on the basis of geographic representation, laboratory capacity, HAI caseload, and willingness of hospital administration and staff to participate, have improved the quality of existing routine-based surveillance system on HAIS. A reliable system that continuously collects high quality HAI data in georgia that is then utilized to apply evidence-based IPC efforts towards the reduction of disease rates is created. This was accomplished by building a strong foundation that combined and harmonized actions in ipcn education, HAI surveillance, and formation of IPC strategy. After baseline rates of HAI are determined during the project, evidence-based IPC efforts will be made to reduce the disease rates. Component 2 - improve capacity to detect and monitor emerging antimicrobial resistance project title: strengthening laboratory capacity and improving diagnostic stewardship at the regional laboratories and hospitals in georgia the objective of this project is to establish strong cooperation among hospitals/laboratories in the country to aid in downstream analysis of AMR. Ncdc/lugar center will work with evex medical corporation, megalab and AMR national network laboratories (25 clinical laboratories along the country) to enhance detection and response to infectious disease threats in healthcare facilities by developing a strong network to implement prevention and containment strategies at local and national levels. The project's main focus is to strengthen laboratory capacity at the local and central levels of the country to ensure reliable surveillance data on the prevalence of AMR from healthcare settings on nosocomial infections, fungal infections and in invasive bacterial and respiratory pathogens. The project will also improve the quality and quantity of reporting AMR data to who/europe through both the regional caesar and global glass programs. Overall, the purpose of this project is to enhance detection and response on emerging AMR spread in healthcare settings and community; to strengthen AMS program in the hospital setting at central and regional levels; to improve diagnostic stewardship at the laboratories of the national AMR network. Component 3 - rapid response to infectious disease outbreaks or other public health emergencies in healthcare facilities project title: improving preparedness and response capacities to outbreaks and public health emergencies in hospitals overall goal: strengthening response capacities to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies in priority hospitals objective 1: upgrading hospital preparedness policies to ensure rapid response to outbreaks and emergencies objective 2: strengthen healthcare workforce knowledge and readiness objective 3: test the readiness of hospital
