Description
Rhode island core state injury prevention program - the rhode island department of health violence and injury prevention program (ridoh vipp) will implement a data-driven multi-sector approach to address injury and violence prevention. Areas of focus are adverse childhood experiences (aces), transportation safety, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Vipp will utilize its existing partnerships to 1) increase understanding of injury burden and related risk and protective factors using national, statewide, and community-level data, 2) develop evidence-based strategies to address priority areas and shared risk and protective factors, 3) disseminate new and emerging data to inform public health actions, and 4) prioritize disproportionally affected populations, 5) improving data quality through continued quality improvement, and 6) increasing access to timely data on nonfatal injury and violence outcomes. The project will enhance and improve the timeliness of injury and violence data collection and inform recommendations for public health action. Ridoh will use robust data and syndromic surveillance systems to rapidly respond to the various injury and violence emerging trends in collaboration with key partners and will regularly evaluate the effectiveness of strategies to improve the evidence base for injury and violence prevention activities. In the next 5-year funding cycle, ridoh?s vipp staff and external partners will be able to mobilize resources to respond to outbreaks, clusters, and emerging injury threats at the local level and among disproportionately-affected populations.
