Description

Washington state department of health core state injury prevention program (core sipp) - washington state department of health (DOH) proposes a comprehensive project to address injury and violence prevention through the lens of shared risk and protective factors to leverage resources. While we have made substantial progress, injuries continue to be the leading killer of children and adults aged 1? 44 in this state and the united states. In total, 5,195 washington residents died from injuries and violence in 2019. DOH and IVP have a long history of prevention work and have built data-driven, evidence-based programs to prevent injuries and violence from occurring in the first place. We request $250,000 for the first year of this five-year project to maximize and sustain impact in the three priority focus areas: transportation safety, traumatic brain injury, and adverse childhood experiences (aces). In addition, we request an additional $150,000 for the first year in implementation and enhanced evaluation funding to develop and conduct an evaluation of washington?s traumatic brain injury prevention programs. DOH will partner with existing leaders in each of the focus areas to advance the collaborative prevention of injury and maximally leverage resources, and we will continue to use data and emerging research to understand specific issues facing the diverse population of washington state while monitoring for emerging injury trends. Our ongoing commitment to exploring shared risk and protective factors impacting core state injury prevention program (sipp) focus areas and other IVP topics will strengthen our upstream prevention efforts and a continuous quality improvement approach will ensure that we deliver strong programs that meet the needs of communities in the state disproportionately impacted by injury and violence. Sipp funds will allow US to build upon previous work, strengthening overall IVP infrastructure in the areas of data collection and dissemination, partnerships and collaboration, and evaluation and assessment. Our work o VER the next five years will be critical to supporting washington?s most vulnerable residents, improving their health and the health of our state.
