The National Resources Conservation Service awarded the West Virginia Conservation Agency $523,137 in a Cooperative Agreement on July 15, 2026, to perform rehabilitation design for the New Creek Site 1 watershed project in Mineral County, West Virginia, under the Watershed Rehabilitation Program (CFDA 10.916).

The award funds design work for dam rehabilitation under the PL 566 Watershed Rehabilitation Program, which provides technical and financial assistance to extend the service life of dams originally constructed with USDA Watershed Program assistance while meeting applicable safety and performance standards. Work will be performed in West Virginia with a completion date of December 31, 2028. The West Virginia Conservation Agency, a state government entity focused on land and water resource management, serves as the recipient. The Watershed Rehabilitation Program prioritizes projects where local sponsors demonstrate current operation and maintenance of existing infrastructure, secure necessary land rights and permits, commit to cost-sharing, and document environmental, economic, and social benefits that exceed project costs.
