Conduct nutrient runoff experiments with manure applications to gather more data on how manure spreading activities can affect nutrient runoff from farm fields

The National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded a $1,300,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Soil and Water Conservation Federal Grant Program (CFDA 10.902) to conduct nutrient runoff experiments with manure applications. The purpose is to gather more data on how manure spreading activities can affect nutrient runoff from farm fields.

The primary awardee is Auburn University, a public land-grant research university. Auburn University has sub-awarded portions of the work to Cornell University and Oregon State University, both of which are also 1862 land-grant institutions. The cooperative agreement has a performance period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026. The sub-award details indicate the universities will collaborate to conduct the nutrient runoff experiments and provide technical data and analysis to support the grant's objectives.
