Description

The rate of domestic violence calls to law enforcement in the county is nearly twice the state level, and the trend has only worsened over time. Nearly half (45%) of spokane?s youth reported experiencing violence. In response to a 2017 needs assessment, the spokane regional domestic violence coalition (srdvc)?a longstanding, multisector coalition of funders, service providers, criminal justice, health and education systems, and citizens?launched a community awareness campaign to raise awareness about violence across an array of community partners and offer practical action steps for stakeholders. The coalition completed a five-year strategic plan in january 2021. Srdvc and partners propose to address multiple forms of violence impacting adolescents and young adults, particularly in spokane?s overburdened west central community, by:?creating a system to refer youth encountering juvenile court who are at increased risk of violence to community-based prevention programs and launching the green DOT program in the high school serving the west central neighborhood in order to increase implementation of evidence-based and promising programs in community-based settings, increase knowledge of DV and risk and protective factors among participating youth, and decrease violent activities among participating youth.?implementing a positive social norms campaign through the expansion of an existing community education campaign in order to increase awareness, accountability, and action for DV prevention and intervention among those exposed to the campaign; and healthy and positive social norms that protect against youth violence.?enhance strategic collaboration around srdvc?s five-year strategic plan to increase the coalition?s capacity to prevent youth violence and expand strategic plan activities to include addressing youth violence.?evaluate the QU antity and quality of effort and impact of strategies, particularly focusing on racial inequities, to increase evaluation and translation, and access to and tracking of data.
