Description
Strengthening vaccine-preventable disease prevention and response - hawai'i is a favored tourist destination with over 9 million visitors annually and a population comprised of a variety of racial and ethnic populations with no group comprising over 37% of the population. With all of these cultural and physical interactions, IT is essential that the state of hawaii educate its residents about immunizations in ways that are culturally appropriate to them. Over the last 12 years, hawaii has had a vaccine preventable disease outbreak every 2-3 years and immunizations continues to be the best defense against these diseases. Hawai'i's proposal to the strengthening vaccine-preventable disease prevention and response funding opportunity focuses on continued program strengths while improving data modernization, immunization availability and ensuring that its population is protected in the event of a vaccine preventable disease outbreak. Funding from this opportunity will allow hawai'i to build on the immunization work completed up till now, educating both health care providers and the general public about immunizations. As a part of this application, hawai'i will continue to work with centers for disease control and prevention to provide immunization information, best practices and provide immunizations for those eligible for the vaccine for children program. Data management plans, various reporting tools and a strong organizational capacity demonstrate hawai'i's commitment to this project. Through provider community connections and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, hawai'i continues to utilize best practices to keep its residents healthy.
