About this award

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation a $11.575 million cooperative agreement on August 1, 2026, to administer marine debris removal funding under the Marine Debris Program (CFDA 11.999).

NFWF will manage a competitive application process to award subawards for marine debris removal and disposal projects at the local level. The funding targets coastal habitats, shorelines, and nearshore waters in coastal counties of Guam, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina that were impacted by hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and Milton or Typhoon Mawar in 2023 and 2024. The debris removal work aims to reduce impacts to communities, industry, habitats, and fish and wildlife populations.

NFWF will manage all programmatic elements of the funding opportunity in collaboration with NOAA, including development of the competitive solicitation, proposal evaluation, technical assistance to applicants and subrecipients, and subaward administration. Administrative oversight is based in Washington, DC. The period of performance extends through December 31, 2030.
