About this award
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded the Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority of Louisiana $32,252,050 on October 1, 2026, to restore and nourish 378 acres of marsh along coastal Louisiana under the North Delacroix (BS-0041) project through the Habitat Conservation program (CFDA 11.463).
The project addresses widespread land loss in the Delacroix area that has exposed the community to flooding from the south and east. Coastal wetlands restore natural storm surge defense, protecting communities and infrastructure while providing habitat for fish and shellfish that support a statewide seafood industry valued at nearly $1 billion annually. The project builds upon earlier engineering and design work and contributes to a suite of projects protecting this historic, culturally distinct fisheries-centric community.
The award obligates $35,835,611 total and runs from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2031. Performance occurs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Funding was approved in January 2025 through the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) Task Force, composed of the State of Louisiana and five federal agencies: NOAA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The assistance type is a cooperative agreement.
Description
The north delacroix (BS-0041) project will contribute to a suite of projects designed to aid in the protection from storm surges of this historic and culturally distinct fisheries-centric community. Coastal wetlands provide defense during hurricanes and storms, protecting communities and infrastructure from the damaging effects of wind, waves, and flooding. They also provide habitat for fish and shellfish, which support a statewide seafood industry valued at nearly $1 billion per year. This project, which builds upon earlier engineering and design work, will address the widespread, continued land loss within the project site, which has exposed delacroix to flooding from the south and east. Funding for this project was approved in january 2025 through the coastal wetlands planning, protection, and restoration act (cwppra) task force. The task force is composed of the state of louisiana and five participating federal agencies: NOAA, U.S. Army corps of engineers, U.S. Environmental protection agency, U.S. Fish and wildlife service, and the natural resources conservation service.
