SCDES will also develop an education and outreach plan to promote the new datasets and the Beachfront Explorer application. The project period is from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2029.
Description
South carolina CZM inflation reduction act project description the national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) is providing $875,000 in federal funding to the state of south carolina through the inflation reduction act. This funding will build the ability of the south carolina coastal zone management program within the south carolina department of environmental services bureau of coastal management (DES BCM) to implement projects, initiatives, and programs that increase the climate resilience of coastal communities within coastal counties. Specifically, the south carolina CZM program will use these funds to lead the development of a south carolina beachfront explorer application, to improve public access, awareness, and understanding of data and information associated with beachfront hazards and vulnerability. The application will consolidate relevant data and information allowing users to evaluate data collectively within a single platform. The following spatial datasets will be developed or updated to allow for parcel-level analysis: sand volume change across multiple years, beach nourishment projects, erosion control structures, long-term erosion rates, jurisdictional lines, and DES BCM emergency orders. The south carolina coastal management program will develop an education and outreach plan to promote and share the new datasets and the beachfront explorer application.
