Description
Tijuana river nerr infrastructure capacity-building project description the national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) is providing $600,000 in federal funding to the state of california through the bipartisan infrastructure law. This funding will build the capacity of the tijuana river national estuarine research reserve within california state parks to plan for and implement habitat restoration and conservation projects proposed through funding opportunities connected to the bipartisan infrastructure law. Specifically, tijuana river national estuarine research reserve will use these funds to support the several large-scale restoration projects, include: the tijuana estuary tidal restoration program (tetrp) - a multi-phased, adaptive effort aimed at restoring coastal wetland function and habitats compromised by transboundary inputs of sediment, incorporating lessons learned from past restoration, and embedding research to learn new lesson; restoration of the nelson-sloan quarry - accomplished by placing sediments derived from other projects to restore landforms on a degraded coastal mesa along the border; monument road realignment - improving access to the culturally-significant southwest corner of the united states while removing vulnerable roads from coastal wetlands; and dune restoration exploring techniques to enhance dune building on one of the last intact shorelines in the region.
