Description
The national marine fisheries services (NMFS) proposed action is to provide funding to support research projects focused on expanding data services capacity and as well as to provide training to fishing communities in the U.S. Territories. Psmfc would develop and implement a large-scale project in support of fisheries data management and strengthening local fishing communities. The initiative includes several interrelated projects focused on modernizing and improving access to fisheries data through innovative cloud technologies. These efforts involve harnessing cloud-based solutions to drive modernization, integration, and innovation in west coast fisheries data products while establishing alaska as a national model for leveraging cloud resources to improve fisheries data accessibility and dissemination. Additionally, the project focuses on integrating highly migratory species data across the pacific into a centralized data warehouse to support cross-pacific fisheries science and management. IT also explores advancements in electronic monitoring by combining artificial intelligence, cloud storage, and electronic technologies to improve efficiency and monitoring capabilities. Finally, the project emphasizes creating data-driven tools that integrate ecosystem and socioeconomic profiles into operational stock assessments and fishery management decisions, promoting the use of ecosystem-based fisheries management approaches.
