Description

Wild wetlands is a systemic meaningful watershed educational experiences program for all 6TH grade students of queen annes county public schools in which participants examine the impacts of human development on aquatic ecosystems. The unit places a particular emphasis on the role wetlands play to mitigate climate change, improve water quality, and provide habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. Prior to the start of the 2024-25 school year, science teachers have professional development opportunities to develop the curriculum in conjunction with SEF staff while improving their content knowledge of wetland habitats and the components of the mwee instructional model. During the school year, students participate in two field experiences. The first takes place at sefs lawrence wetlands preserve in chestertown, maryland and the second includes students exploring a tidal wetland near their school on canoes and kayaks.
