Description

Activities
Two categories of activities are proposed: (1) grant program management and (2) outreach. With respect to grant program management, the activities to be performed include funding previously reviewed research proposals from the southeast initiative and running a research-to-application partnership grant program. Running a competition includes forming an advisory committee to guide the development of research priorities and a call for proposals and solicitating and selecting projects for funding. Both grant programs will involve issuing subawards to funded institutions and drafting project reports and research summaries. With respect to outreach, the activities to be performed include managing a project webpage, organizing and hosting a virtual symposium, and developing a story map and other outreach materials.
Expected outcomes
The expected outcomes of this project include an increased understanding of contaminants types, prevalence, and transport mechanisms in the southeast; enhanced collaboration between researchers and policymakers in both the great lakes/lake champlain and southeast regions; research-to-application partnerships that can serve as models for future efforts; and improved use of research in policy-making.
Intended beneficiaries
The intended beneficiaries of this project are federal and state agencies, academic researchers, and community members.
Subrecipient activities
There are three subawards associated with this project. In year 1, a subaward will be issued to project partner south carolina sea grant consortium to issue subawards to clemson university and the university of south florida as part of the southeast initiative and incorporate their research findings into project outputs.
