About this award

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a $2,564,900 Cooperative Agreement under the Marine Debris Program (CFDA 11.999) to Pinellas County, Florida to remove more than 20,000 tires from five designated essential fish habitat areas in the Gulf of Mexico. This 3-year project, known as the Tampa Bay Tire Cleanup, will divert 100% of the removed tires from landfills through the county's waste-to-energy facility. The project also includes community outreach activities such as press releases, social media, and student participation in beach clean-up efforts to promote marine debris prevention. This federal grant award supports NOAA's mission to identify, assess, reduce, and prevent marine debris and its environmental impacts along the U.S. coastline.
