About this award

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded a $600,000 Cooperative Agreement (CFDA 11.473 - Office for Coastal Management) to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on May 1, 2024. This funding will build the capacity of Minnesota's federally-approved Coastal Management Program to implement projects, initiatives, and programs that increase the climate resilience of coastal communities within the state's coastal counties.

Specifically, the DNR will use these funds to address high priority needs in the areas of coastal erosion, coastal engineering, and resilience information and expertise. The Minnesota Coastal Management Program (MCMP) will invest in updated coastal hazard maps, support communities with technical assistance to apply the maps to local decisions, and supplement this information with contractor support in coastal engineering and resilience. The DNR has also awarded a $263,018 sub-grant to the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission to digitize shoreline data, publish coastal erosion hazard mapping data, provide training, and support a sustained coastal erosion hazard mapping workgroup.
