About this award
This $5,000,000 Cooperative Agreement award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Federal Grant Program (CFDA 11.012) will support the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (Secoora) in achieving four key objectives over the 5-year project period from August 2024 to July 2029:
- Building regional capacity to participate in pan-regional and national IOOS initiatives, 2) Recapitalizing and modernizing Secoora's coastal observation assets to ensure dependable operations and resilience benefits, 3) Establishing and deepening partnerships with diverse user communities, especially historically marginalized and underserved groups, and 4) Leveraging IOOS investments to enhance ecosystem and physical oceanographic data products and services.
As a regional ocean observing association, Secoora maintains a comprehensive network of environmental sensors, webcams, and monitoring equipment along the Southeast U.S. coastline, providing critical data to support coastal resilience, marine research, and public safety efforts. This grant will enable Secoora to expand its coastal observation capabilities, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and integrate its regional data with national IOOS initiatives.
