About this award

This federal Cooperative Agreement award, totaling $2,095,000.00 and funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through the Unallied Science Program (CFDA 11.472), supports the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) in promoting and sustaining the management of valuable Pacific Ocean fishery resources. PSMFC, an interstate compact agency representing 5 states, will coordinate research activities, monitor fishing, and facilitate a variety of projects to collect and maintain data on salmon, steelhead, highly migratory species, and groundfish. This multi-year program, with a performance period from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2027, aims to inform science-based decision making and provide data to support fisheries management across the northern Pacific region.

Description

Formed by congress more than 60 years ago and representing california, oregon, washington, idaho, and alaska, the psmfc helps resource agencies and the fishing industry sustainably manage our valuable pacific ocean resources. Psmfc is one of only three interstate commissions in the united states today. Psmfcs primary goal for this multi-year program is to promote and support policies and actions to conserve, develop, and manage our fishery resources in california, oregon, washington and alaska. They accomplish this through coordinating research activities, monitoring fishing activities, and facilitating a wide variety of projects. They work to collect data and maintain databases on salmon, steelhead, highly migratory species and groundfish for fishery managers and the fishing industry. Within the broad geographic range of the northern pacific ocean, psmfc works to develop common ground solutions for issues that fall outside individual state or regional management council jurisdictions. Psmfc supports science-informed decision-making and works to collect, manage, and deliver data that are of use in many management venues.
