The BAY foundation (TBF) will partner with NOAA, UC davis bodega marine lab (BML), southern california marine institute (SCMI), california department of fish and wildlife (CDFW), paua marine research group (PMRG), the cultured abalone farm (TCAF) and others to spawn wild and captive red and white abalone, and outplant the resulting individuals in several areas off palos verdes, LOS angeles and point loma, SAN diego. Funds will also contribute to expanding this project to more remote locations, like the channel islands, with the goal of establishing white abalone restoration sites off catalina island in late 2024 or 2025. Both larval and juvenile abalone will be outplanted to compare the efficacy of outplanting abalone at various life stages.
