Description

New york city (NYC) is an especially at-risk area in terms of its combined high population density, highly urbanized built environment, and climatological flood risk. The city invests heavily in planning for and building infrastructure to mitigate stormwater flooding. This project will use new data and more appropriate non-stationary analysis methods to provide updated and improved meteorological context for extreme events. By using the improved precipitation data to drive state-of-the-art hydrology models, results will also quantify potential benefits of specific NYC stormwater mitigation projects. This work will help NYC stakeholders make informed decisions regarding infrastructure investments impacted by flood risk.
