THIS IS A ONE-YEAR PROJECT TO SUPPORT HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL RESEARCH AND RECOVERY WITHIN PAPAHANAUMOKUAKEA MARINE NATIONAL MONUMENT (PMNM). THE RECIPIENT CONDUCTS ANNUAL LARGE-SCALE MARINE DEBRIS REMOVAL OPERATIONS AT SEVEN LOCATIONS WITHIN PMNM, WITH AN AVERAGE ANNUAL PRESENCE OF 60 DAYS IN MONUMENT WATERS. THIS PROJECT WILL ADD THE EQUIVALENT OF FOUR DAYS' WORTH OF TIME TO THEIR WORK TO FOCUS ON RESEARCH AND RECOVERY ACTIONS RELATED TO HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS. THE PROPOSED WORK INCLUDES SEAL ID TAG/MARKING OR RE-SIGHTING ID'S AT PRIORITY LOCATIONS; FLIPPER TAGGING, VACCINATING OR BLEACH-MARKING SEALS; DISENTANGLEMENTS OR OTHER INTERVENTIONS; SEAL POPULATION SURVEYS AND PHOTO COLLECTION; AND SURVEYS AT MARO REEF OR ANY OTHER LOCATIONS WHERE DATA IS LIMITED.
