About this award
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded a $25.58 million cooperative agreement to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana under the Habitat Conservation federal grant program (CFDA 11.463) to construct the No Name Bayou Marsh Creation Project. Through this award, the Authority will restore over 530 acres of marsh habitat in Cameron Parish, Louisiana from April 2023 to March 2027. The project aims to combat open water formation along the Gulf Coast and provide a first line of defense for the population center of Lake Charles. Wetlands restored under this award will preserve habitat for fish and shellfish that support Louisiana's $1 billion commercial seafood industry while also protecting communities from hurricanes and storms. As the state's lead coastal agency, the Authority oversees planning and implementation of large-scale coastal restoration projects funded through federal programs.
