Description
In the last 20 years, this area has seen multiple 100-year flood events, which have caused significant road damage. Removing the culverts will reduce the likelihood of catastrophic structure failure and maintain access to emergency services and subsistence resources for tribal and rural communities. The copper river watershed supports fisheries that are of profound importance to alaska native and rural subsistence users, recreational anglers, and commercial fishermen. Annual commercial harvests of copper river salmon generate an average of $20 million dollars to commercial fishermen, and an additional $20 million dollars to local economies.
