Description
In parallel, the impacts of harmful algal blooms on coastal zones have increased. Many eutrophic habitats, particularly in the mid-atlantic and northeast US, already experience recurring harmful algal blooms and coastal ocean acidification, making these locations focal points of these stressors. Although the fields of harmful algal blooms and ocean acidification are well-established individually, the effects of ocean acidification on harmful algal blooms, and of harmful algal blooms on ocean acidification, are poorly understood and the effects of the CO-occurrence of harmful algal blooms and ocean acidification on marine organisms is largely unknown. This proposal seeks to establish a comprehensive understanding of how three of the most prominent harmful algal blooms on the US east coast (alexandrium catenella, dinophysis acuminata, and margalefidinium polykrikoides) respond to ocean acidif
