About this award
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded $2.3 million under the Coastal Zone Management Administration Awards program (CFDA 11.419) to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to administer the state's federally approved coastal management program through September 30, 2023. NOAA's investment of $2.3 million is being matched by $2.2 million in state funds for a total of $4.5 million to support the state's Land and Water Resources Division in addressing important coastal management issues. Specifically, the funding will enable the division to continue providing assistance to coastal communities on matters such as coastal hazards, climate change, habitat restoration, ocean planning, and dredge material management. The cooperative agreement funding mechanism establishes a partnership between NOAA and Connecticut to jointly implement coastal zone management goals that balance environmental protection and economic development.
Description
The national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) is providing ongoing funding through the national coastal zone management program to the state of connecticut to help administer the state's federally approved coastal management program. The national coastal zone management program, under the coastal zone management act, is an important voluntary federal-state partnership that protects, restores, and responsibly develops our nation's coastal communities and resources by balancing economic development, coastal uses, and natural resource protection. These funds will support jobs and provide continued assistance to the connecticut department of energy and environmental protection's land and water resources division (LWRD) to address many important coastal management issues in the state including coastal hazards, climate change, habitat restoration, ocean planning, and dredge material management.
