Description

IT also allows for the CO-management of marine mammal resources with NOAA as the trusted federal agency for these important subsistence resource species. A CO-management agreement between the aleut community of ST. George island and the national marine fisheries service was signed in 2001 for the purpose of promoting the conservation and preservation of northern FUR seal and steller sea lion through a process of shared responsibility. The objective of this proposal is to provide the necessary services to continue the implementation of the CO-management agreement between the national marine fisheries service, alaska region and the aleut community of ST. George island as authorized by section 119 of the marine mammal protection act.
