Description
The amount of water converted from precipitation to streamflow is regulated through a variety of physical processes, including snow melt, evaporation, sublimation, and those driving near-surface weather conditions. At the same time, weather in mountainous regions is important for topics ranging from development of renewable energy resources, to understanding fire potential, to aviation safety. As a result, correct prediction of weather and water over areas of complex terrain is a critical societal need that must be informed by the best observational networks and prediction tools available. Under this project, our team will leverage observations from a fleet of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAS) deployed during the planned study of precipitation, the lower atmosphere and surface for hydrometeorology (splash) to provide new observational perspectives on surface properties including
