The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through its Older Adults Home Modification Grant Program (CFDA 14.921), awarded a $1,418,041.68 Cooperative Agreement to Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation on January 31, 2025. This grant enables the non-profit organization to deliver home modification services to over 1,900 low-income senior households in both urban and rural communities. The program focuses on providing low-cost, high-impact home modifications, such as the installation of grab bars, railings, lever-handled doors, and adaptive equipment, to reduce falls, improve safety, increase accessibility, and enhance the functional abilities of older adults to age in place. The program model relies on the expertise of licensed occupational therapists to evaluate clients' needs and ensure the home modifications address their specific goals. This investment aims to help low-income elderly homeowners remain in their residences rather than move to nursing homes or other assisted care facilities.
