The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $1,000,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Older Adults Home Modification Grant Program (CFDA 14.921) to the Region IV Area Agency On Aging Inc. The purpose of this program is to assist experienced nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, and public housing authorities in undertaking comprehensive programs that make safety and functional home modifications and repairs to meet the needs of low-income elderly homeowners. The goal is to enable older adults to remain in their homes and "age in place" rather than move to nursing homes or other assisted care facilities. The Region IV Area Agency On Aging Inc. plans to deliver home modification services to more than 1,900 senior families in both urban communities and communities with substantial rural populations. Services will focus on low-cost, high-impact modifications such as the installation of grab bars, railings, adaptive equipment, and other interventions to reduce fall risk, improve safety, increase accessibility, and enhance functional abilities for the program's low-income elderly beneficiaries.
