The U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management has awarded a $137,500 Cooperative Agreement to the Tri-County Firesafe Working Group Inc., a non-profit organization, under the BLM Fuels Management and Community Fire Assistance Program Activities (CFDA 15.228). The purpose of this project is to reduce wildfire risk to communities and build community wildfire resilience through forest health improvement, wildlife habitat conservation, and support for forest industries. The primary objective is to assist private landowners with wildfire mitigation by providing education, outreach, and funding support for mitigation treatments, in collaboration with state and federal partners. As a sub-awardee, Tri-County Firesafe Working Group has previously partnered with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation on various fuel reduction projects such as forest thinning, landscape restoration, and controlled burns to protect communities and ecosystems from catastrophic wildfires.
