Description
The awarded funds will support a series of coordinated activities focusing on fuels management, home hardening projects, and community engagement and education to increase residents engagement in these programs. The objectives of our project include: 1.increase community members awareness of their wildfire risk and opportunities for resilience by engaging 2000 people of diverse backgrounds throughout our region.2.increase awareness of wildfire risk reduction opportunities through expanded outreach and via the neighborhood ambassador program, expanding the program to at least 35 total neighborhoods.3.increase homeowner awareness of specific wildfire risks to their home and strategies for home hardening by conducting at least 60 home wildfire risk assessments.4.incentivize fuels management and home hardening work through a valley-wide cost-match mitigation program for homes and neighborhoods.5.accomplish fuels management at a home scale by tracking 15 new home hardening projects.6.accomplish fuels management at a neighborhood scale by conducting at least 6 direct mitigation events (e.g., chipping programs, volunteer mitigation days).our expected deliverables are measurable and designed to boost community and ecosystem resilience to wildfires. Subrecipient activities include fuels reduction and home hardening efforts at the individual home or HOA neighborhood scale. Funded subrecipient activities must be recommended in home wildfire risk assessments conducted by trained professionals, ensuring that subawards support mitigation work that is grounded in best practices and expert knowledge. The primary beneficiaries of these efforts will be the residents and ecosystems of the roaring fork valley. Our communities face significant wildfire risks due to a combination of factors including climate change, an accumulation of combustible forest materials, and increasing interface between human habitation and forested areas. By implementing our proposed activities, we not only aim to safeguard lives and properties but also strive to protect the valley s biodiversity, including critical habitats for endemic species and water resources vital for the region s ecology and human use.through this project, we will support the BLM s colorado program strategic goals, particularly in accomplishing fuels management activities on both federal and non-federal land, developing fire education, conducting community wildfire protection assessments, and enhancing local employment opportunities in wildfire mitigation. The rfvwc will coordinate with state, federal, and local stakeholders to maximize the project s impact and align with broader conservation and wildfire resilience goals. Our integrated approach aims to create fire-resilient landscapes and fire-adapted communities, protecting the area s assets from the ever-growing threat of catastrophic wildfires. We will conduct rigorous data collection, monitoring, and evaluation. We will track our outreach and education efforts, measure the effectiveness of the neighborhood ambassador program, and assess the impact of our home risk assessments and mitigation projects. This data-driven approach will help US to continuously refine our strategies and ensure that our efforts are effective and efficient. This project is not only an investment in the immediate safety of the roaring fork valley but also a long-term endeavor to foster a fire-adapted ecosystem and community. IT is an integral part of a broader vision to create a landscape where natural processes and human habitation coexist sustainably, reducing the likelihood of catastrophic wildfires and ensuring a resilient future for the region. Through this grant, the rfvwc will be equipped to execute these crucial initiatives and set a precedent for wildfire management and community engagement.
