Description
The wildland fire cameras provide real-time situational awareness through a publicly available website that has credentialed access for fire personnel and first responders. With credentials, users can move the cameras and have access to AI smoke detection alerts that can be configured for each credentialed user or dispatch center. The website also provides the public with a live view of the cameras to provide them with their own situational awareness to make decisions that impact their own response plans for nearby wildfires. The live camera feeds will be primarily displayed on the alertwest website and secondarily on the alertwildfire website for redundancy. Command-and-control of the cameras will be made available through both websites to ensure that fire management professionals do not have any downtime in their ability to control the cameras. Likewise, both the public and fire management personnel will have redundancy in their ability to gain situational awareness from the BLM camera network. The yearly budgets for this project are effectively split into two categories, the first being operations and maintenance of the existing network and the second being new camera installations. For the O M portion, we expect the cameras to be online and operational during fire season and during the winter as the weather permits. Down cameras during fire season should be repaired within 3-5 days. These repairs will be an ongoing effort throughout the duration of the award. For the new installations, we are proposing a growth of the network by two camera sites for years 1 4 and one site in year 5, which will grow the network to 53 sites by the end of this award. We plan to work closely with the BLM to identify high-priority locations for additional fire cameras. We will coordinate these installations with state and federal agencies to take advantage of shared infrastructure to reduce costs and leverage existing land-use agreements. Additionally, the NSL will help manage user accounts to ensure every user that needs to control the cameras has access to the platform and has the required training to effectively use the system. We anticipate the expanded camera network with additional website features, such as AI smoke detection and customizable alerts, will significantly improve the wildland fire response in nevada, and the overall effectiveness of the BLM nevada wildland fire camera network.
