Description

Cheatgrass has been proven to change the landscape if the sagebrush steppe from a sagebrush dominated plant community to an annual invasive grassland. This conversion is exacerbated by fire. If we can reduce f INE fuels loads created by cheatgrass we can reduce catastrophic fire and keep sagebrush rangelands healthy. The taskforce is committed to treating cheatgrass and keeping our important sagebrush rangelands intact in our plant communities. Most of the sagebrush in sublette county is on BLM lands and uninvaded. We plan to keep IT that way, by aggressively treating cheatgrass and monitoring the health of these systems. We will be treating cheatgrass with helicopter at the landscape scale with a hired contractor. We will also survey new areas and previously treated areas to inform US if there is a need to retreat. We will be treating with the best tools available at the time and communicating all choices with our task force partners including our local BLM staff.
