About this award
The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District will receive $532,470 through a Cooperative Agreement awarded on December 27, 2022 by the Bureau of Land Management Nevada Region under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act program (CFDA 15.235). The funding will support a 90-115 acre fuels reduction project along Highway 50 in the Lake Tahoe Basin from 2023 to 2028. Treatments will include thinning and removal of fuels in two areas prone to heavy traffic and near homes to modify potential wildfire behavior. This will enable safer wildfire protection and increase ecosystem sustainability by restoring a more natural landscape composition and density. The project aims to prevent impacts to the community and environment from catastrophic wildfire.
Description
The tahoe douglas fire protection district fuels reduction HWY 50 project is a 90 to 115 acre fuels reduction project located in two distinct areas along the northern section of US highway 50 in the lake tahoe basin between glenbrook and zephyr cove, NV. These areas are prone to heavy vehicle traffic in the summer months and are forested lands that are in close proximity to homes. These project areas are within the defense zone in the WUI. The project is necessary to prevent impacts to the community and environment from catastrophic wildfire. This treatment will help to modify potential fire behavior such that firefighters will be able to safely protect life, property, and the environment from an approaching wildland fire. This project will also drastically increase the sustain ability of the ecosystems by returning the environment back to a more natural landscape in terms of vegetation, tree density, and species composition. Treatment will include thinning and removal of fuels within the project areas and is expected to commence in 2023 and will be completed by 2028.DE minimus rate statement the tahoe douglas fire protection district has never had a negotiated indirect rate agreement (nicra), however, we would like to use 10 as our DE minimus rate.duplication of effort statement the tahoe douglas fire protection district is confident in stating that the HWY 50 fuels reduction project does not overlap with any another federal agencies project and or funding.
