About this award

This $365,000 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under the Research and Data Collection program (CFDA 15.808) will support research, data collection, and monitoring activities for the Alaska Landslide Program. Specifically, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the award recipient, will:

  • Acquire research-grade seismic and related data in the vicinity of the Barry Landslide, coordinated with USGS and other partners
  • Develop algorithms and software to detect, disseminate, and visualize recent landslides
  • Publish geophysical data and open-source algorithms through online clearinghouses
  • Supervise students, postdocs, and staff in using geophysical methods for detecting and locating catastrophic landslide failures
  • Engage in active collaboration with USGS scientists to share ideas, support interagency meetings, and include USGS personnel on graduate student committees

The goal of these efforts is to strengthen research, data collection, and monitoring capabilities for the Alaska Landslide Program, with the ultimate aim of improving public safety in landslide-prone regions of the state.
