The University of Houston System Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Division, doing business as University of Houston-Downtown (UHD), was awarded a $128,125.37 Cooperative Agreement by the U.S. Geological Survey under the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810). The funding will support undergraduate geology students from UHD to map parts of three contiguous 7.5 minute quadrangles in the Paisley Hills, Oregon. The activities will involve geologic field mapping, map interpretation and compilation, rock identification, and creating ArcGIS projects to depict the types and distribution of geological units. The completed maps will be delivered to the U.S. Geological Survey and the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, providing a basis for further mapping of the complete quadrangles and enhancing the understanding of the area's potential resources. This project will greatly enhance the training of UHD's post-field camp students and reinforce key geological skills.
