Under this award, the ILSWS will: 1) ensure its water-level network data continues to flow to the NGWMN data portal; 2) update its database and web services to...
This federal Project Grant award from the U.S. Geological Survey under the Assistance to State Water Resources Research Institutes program (CFDA 15.805) provides $533,372.00 to Iowa State University to conduct multi-scale spatio-temporal analysis of the U.S. water budget using the CONUS404 dataset. The primary objectives are to: 1) Compare CONUS404 water budget components against in-situ and remotely-sensed observations, as well as other reanalysis datasets, at multiple spatial and temporal...
The University of Iowa was awarded a $182,594 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Geological Survey to support the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (CFDA 15.980) program. Under this 2-year project, the Iowa Geological Survey, as a current data provider for the NGWMN, will enhance the water-level data it collects and delivers to the NGWMN data portal. Key activities include revising web services, installing continuous water-level monitoring equipment on 3 new wells and 1 modified existing...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) awarded a $120,498 Cooperative Agreement to the University of Kansas Center for Research Inc. to maintain and expand the Kansas-based data services that support the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (NGWMN) from July 15, 2023 through July 14, 2025. Under this project, the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) will: 1) provide persistent data services to ensure that water-level data continues to flow to the NGWMN data portal and maintain up-to-date metadata for...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) awarded a $485,717 Project Grant under the Assistance to State Water Resources Research Institutes program (CFDA 15.805) to Iowa State University of Science and Technology. The grant, awarded on June 11, 2025, supports the development of an AI-driven platform to enhance water resource management capabilities across the United States, with a focus on Iowa as a case study. The key products and services to be delivered through this grant include: Integration of...
This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) provides $303,703 to develop a novel approach for characterizing hydrostratigraphy using water level data collected from multi-level monitoring wells. The University of Iowa will collect water level measurements every 10 seconds from 10 to 15 depths in monitoring wells located at a contaminated groundwater site. Analyzing the response of water levels to rainfall and pumping changes will help delineate the...
This Cooperative Agreement award of $786,428.00 from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810) will fund geologic mapping activities in the state of Iowa from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. The primary objectives are to improve understanding of the distribution and characteristics of geologic units in Iowa, provide critical datasets and maps to support decision-making, and collaborate with other agencies on regional stratigraphic...
This $2,646,047 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program (CFDA 47.070) is developing a national integrated watershed evaluation framework to improve water resource management.
