Description
Project period: 9 29 23-9 28 24PROJECT title: openet: cooperative agreement for cesu-affiliated partner with californian cooperative ecosystem studies unitthe purpose of this project is to advance national capabilities for satellite monitoring and quantification of evapotranspiration (ET) and consumptive water use at the spatial resolution of individual agricultural fields (30 X 30 M). This project includes an applied research program that will support continued advances in the accuracy, reliability, and usability of data from the openet modeling framework and open data services for water resources management applications ranging in scales from major watersheds to individual farms. Specifically, the project will develop and refine techniques and methods for assessing and reporting accuracy of satellite-derived ET data products, identify and quantify error contributions from meteorological inputs in the openet software system, incorporate water use and irrigation type data into openet, improve the openet application programming interface (API) and data services, run openet models to provide ongoing data updates and data continuity, contribute to operational planning, and produce documentation for openet technical requirements, best practices, training, and governance. When possible, technical coding advances will be made available through open source code repositories and results from individual objectives will be shared through technical reports or open access peer-reviewed journal articles. An additional outcome from this project will be improved data access through added capabilities to make large API calls and the development and dissemination of new training material and documentation following findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable data principles. All training material will be made publicly available to accelerate the adoption of openet data to support water resource management applications. The project team is led by scientists from california state university monterey BAY (CSUMB), with in kind support from scientists at NASA ames research center. Additional support will be from award sub-recipients including the non-profit openet, INC., ET plus LLC, and habitat seven. Together, this team includes leading U.S. Experts in remote sensing of ET and has more than 70 years of combined experience with remote sensing of ET and the development of applications of these data to support advances in sustainable water resources management.
