Title: delaware dnrec 2023 wudr projectlong title: improving quality, accuracy, and accessibility of allocated water withdrawals records in delaware to support the delaware department of natural resources and environmental control, division of water, resource protection section.project period 9 1 2023 through 8 31 2025THE delaware department of natural resources and environmental control (dnrec) is a current provider of water use information to the public including the U.S. Geological survey (USGS). This project will quality assure all existing digital records and incorporate all records into earthsofts environmental quality information system (equis). Additionally, the project will improve the accuracy of records by including geospatial information on each individual well or intake, listing the water source and north american industry classification codes (NAICS) code for industrial sites.during this project, the delaware dnrec will review and combine historical well permits and allocation reports stored in disparate microsoft structured query analysis (SQL) and access databases, microsoft excel spreadsheets, and paper documents. As part of the process, the database will be reformatted, and a unique delaware dnrec identification number will be assigned to each well or intake. Additionally, the historical well permits and allocation reports will be reviewed for anomalies and missing information. Spatial coordinates of wells and intakes will be located if available and entered in the database. Spatial coordinates for wells will be located either from existing records or determined using real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning surveys. Additional pertinent information about the wells or intakes such as source aquifer, and the hydrologic unit code 12 will be added.overall, the project includes tasks relevant to state priorities within the delaware water-use data and research workplan. This project includes an emphasis on site specific water-use data and the addition of the NAICS codes to the industrial records. These efforts will also begin the transition for the categories of public supply, industrial and irrigation into the USGS baseline standards tier 2 reporting by providing site specific withdrawals by well, location, source and annual or monthly reporting. As part of the project, delaware dnrec will do the following:1) quality assure existing data and reformat to a standard template 2) improve USGS baseline standards tier level by including additional information in the database and, 3) provide accessibility of the data in equis. The beneficiaries of the work will be the: delaware dnrec, water users within delaware, and users of data provided by the USGS national water information system.
