Description
The project area is approximately 13 acres of upland dune and swale habitats. The purpose of this project is to enhance habitat for oregon silverspot butterfly (speyeria zerene hippolyta) (OSB), a federally threatened species. Park staff, in collaboration with the USFWS, are working to restore OSB habitat at tdsp through removal of invasive non-native plant species, primarily european beachgrass (ammophila arenaria), within 6.6 aces of the project area. European beachgrass is limiting available habitat for the OSB larval host plant, western DOG violet (viola adunca), and native nectar plants species. This cooperative agreement will achieve multiple DOI proposed strategic objectives including 3.3, ?restore lands and waters? By restoring the upland dune and swale habitats, and 3.4 ?species and natural resources are protected? By creating a healthy ecosystem. This project adheres to the fish and wildlife act of 1956 and aligns with the mission of the partners for fish and wildlife program in that IT will efficiently achieve voluntary habitat restoration, through financial and technical assistance, for the benefit of federal trust species.
