GILMAN RIVER CENTER (KENAIRIVER CENTER), A LOCAL HUB FOR INFORMATION AND PERMITS RELATED TO DEVELOPMENT ALONG THEKENAI RIVER AND OTHER STREAMS ON ALASKAS KENAI PENINSULA. THIS PROJECT PRESENTS AUNIQUE OPPORTUNITY, AS DOZENS OF LANDOWNERS AND VISITORS TO THE KENAI PENINSULA VISIT THEKENAI RIVER CENTER EVERY YEAR WHERE THEY DIRECTLY INTERACT WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM THEALASKA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME AND THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH. THIS PROJECTWOULD GIVE LANDOWNERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIRECTED OBSERVE SOME OF THE MOST COMMONREHABILITATION AND PROTECTION TECHNIQUES USED ON THE KENAI RIVER. THE CURRENT STATUS OFTHE STREAM BANK AT THE KENAI RIVER CENTER INCLUDES ELEVATED-LIGHT-PENETRATING BOARDWALK,ROOT-WADS, AND SPRUCE TREE CABLING. IT IS THE LATTER THAT SORELY NEEDS ATTENTION. THIS PROJECTWOULD ADD ONE SECTION OF ELEVATED-LIGHT-PENETRATING BOARDWALK TO ALLOW SAFE ANDSUSTAINABLE ACCESS TO THE KENAI RIVER AND RESTORE 200 LINEAR FEET OF SPRUCE TREE CABLINGIN A MANNER THAT ALLOWS FOR DIRECT, ON-SITE OBSERVATION AT THE LOCATION WHERE LANDOWNERSSEEK PERMITS. LOCAL CONTRACTORS WITH EXPERIENCE IN IMPLEMENTING THESE TECHNIQUES WILL BERELIED UPON FOR THEIR EXPERTISE AND WILL BE CONTRACTED TO IMPLEMENT THESE ACTIVITIES. WHENQUESTIONS ARISE DURING THE PERMITTING PROCESS, THIS PROJECT WILL ALLOW FOR REGULATORYAGENCIES TO SHOWCASE THESE TECHNIQUES WITHOUT SCHEDULING SEPARATE SITE VISITS. THISPROJECT WILL RESULT IN DOZENS OF DIRECT INTERACTIONS ANNUALLY WITH LOCAL LANDOWNERS.
