THE PROJECT IS ALSO ANTICIPATED TO BENEFIT THE PROPOSED TRICOLORED BAT.THE ABSENCE OF NATURALLY OCCURRING FIRES WITHIN THE SOUTHERN POST OAK SAVANNA ECOREGION OF TEXAS HAS FAVORED THE ENCROACHMENT OF FIRE INTOLERANT YAUPON (ILEX VOMITORIA) AND OTHER UNDERSTORY BRUSH SPECIES WHICH, OVER TIME, HAVE ACTED TO TRANSFORM THE REGIONS MIXED OAK FORESTS AND SAVANNA PLANT COMMUNITIES INTO CLOSED CANOPY YAUPON-DOMINATED THICKETS. FORESTS WITH A DENSE BRUSH UNDERSTORY HAVE INADEQUATE LIGHT PENETRATION AND DO NOT SUPPORT THE DIVERSE HERBACEOUS GROUND COVER LAYER WITH INVERTEBRATE COMMUNITIES THAT ARE IMPORTANT HABITAT COMPONENTS FOR A DIVERSE SUITE OF NATIVE WILDLIFE SPECIES.
