About this award
The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5 awarded $6.3 million to the State of Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) through a Coastal Program (CFDA 15.630) Cooperative Agreement, effective September 1, 2025, with a completion date of August 30, 2030. This funding supports DNREC's implementation of the 2023 Christina and Brandywine River Remediation, Restoration, and Resilience (CBR4) Plan, which was identified through a $6.3 million Congressionally Directed Spending request submitted in March 2023 and allocated in spring 2024. The funding flows through the Fish and Wildlife Service's Delaware Bay Coastal Program account and leverages the Coastal Program's partnership role in the project.
Under this cooperative agreement, DNREC will deliver coastal habitat protection, restoration, and improvement projects that benefit federal trust species, including threatened and endangered species, migratory birds, and fish populations. The CBR4 Plan aligns with the Fish and Wildlife Service's fish and wildlife conservation, restoration, and coastal resilience objectives. The initiative supports the Coastal Program's voluntary, community-based approach to ecosystem restoration across Delaware's Christina and Brandywine River watersheds, with technical and financial assistance directed toward habitat restoration activities that enhance coastal resilience and environmental stewardship in the region.
