About this award

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5, under the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) Program (CFDA 15.658), awarded $103,750 to the Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust (ACT) on June 1, 2025, to support the permanent conservation and management of Griswold Island and Clarks Landing properties along the Ammonoosuc River in northern New Hampshire. The award funds legal costs, stewardship activities, and comprehensive management planning for the 8-acre riparian parcels, which serve as critical habitat within the Woodsville Water Light Hydrologic Area of Concern.

Deliverables under this cooperative agreement include the development of management plans addressing invasive species control, shoreline restoration, sustainable pedestrian access, and installation of bird nesting boxes through partnership with Cornell Lab of Ornithology's NestWatch Program. These products are designed to advance long-term habitat health, water quality protection, public education, and community volunteer engagement through May 30, 2027. The NRDAR Program funds these restoration activities to compensate for natural resource injuries caused by oil spills or hazardous substance releases, with this project contributing to ecological recovery in the designated area of concern.

Description

The griswold island and clarks landing properties, totaling over 8 acres along the ammonoosuc river in northern new hampshire, will be permanently conserved by the ammonoosuc conservation trust (act) through land donations that are supported by natural resource damage assessment and restoration (nrdar) settlement funds. Both properties LIE entirely within the woodsville water light hydrologic area of concern (HAC), playing a vital role in providing habitat for migratory birds and supporting shoreline integrity, water quality, and floodplain function. Nrdar funding will support act s legal, stewardship, and planning costs, as well as the development of management plans for both properties. Plans will address invasive species control, shoreline restoration, sustainable pedestrian access, and installation of bird nesting boxes using resources from the cornell lab of ornithologys nestwatch program. These efforts will foster long-term habitat health, water quality protection, public education, and community volunteer engagement.
