About this award
Award Summary
Trout Unlimited, Inc. received a $206,740 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 7 under the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP, CFDA 15.686) program, effective July 21, 2025, through August 31, 2030. The award funds the Matsu Basin Salmon Habitat Partnership, a collaborative conservation initiative established in 2005 to protect salmon habitat and support communities and industries dependent on salmon in southcentral Alaska's Matsu Basin. The partnership employs science-based strategies with on-the-ground implementation to improve salmon habitat, reduce infrastructure risk, and strengthen the local economy.
The cooperative agreement provides three primary deliverables: (1) full-time partnership coordinator support to manage program operations and administrative capacity; (2) community workshops and professional training programs, including the 2025 Matsu Salmon Science and Conservation Symposium; and (3) outreach and engagement activities to ensure broad stakeholder participation in salmon habitat conservation efforts. These coordinated activities strengthen Alaska's salmon-dependent communities and economies while advancing regional habitat restoration objectives within the NFHP framework's collaborative partnership model.
