About this award
This Cooperative Agreement, awarded by the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service under the National Wildlife Refuge System Enhancements program (CFDA 15.654), will provide $3,500,000 to Ducks Unlimited Inc. to assist with the Upper Williamson River Restoration project on the Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. The project aims to restore the Williamson River to its historic form and function, which will benefit native fish and wildlife. Specifically, the funding will be used to construct Phase 1 restoration activities and provide engineering design and environmental compliance services for Phase 2 restoration within the designated section of the Williamson River. Ducks Unlimited, a prominent non-profit conservation organization, will partner with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Klamath Tribes to manage construction, oversee contractors, and develop the engineering and environmental plans for the multi-year restoration effort, with a planned completion date of June 30, 2029.
Description
This project will help the refuge and the klamath tribes fulfill their goal to restore the williamson river to its historic form and function. This will benefit native fish and wildlife. The klamath tribes had previously received funding to implement a portion of phase 1 restoration activities. The US fish and wildlife service (USFWS) and klamath tribes have chosen to partner with ducks unlimited, INC. (DU) to assist with implementation of phase 1, including construction management and oversight of a contractor, and to develop engineering design and environmental compliance for phase 2. This funding request will provide the remaining funds needed to construct phase 1 and provide funding for engineering and environmental compliance services for the phase 2 restoration activities within the section of the williamson river between ball DAM and military road crossing.
