Description

Despite middle creeks high density of spawning existing creek channel and floodplain conditions provide little rearing habitat for juvenile coho salmon. The objectives of the project are to create noflow and low flow rearing habitat for coho salmon juveniles and enhance spawning habitat for coho salmon adults. To achieve these objectives this project will construct an approximately 1200 square foot offchannel rearing pond connected to the middle creek primary channel and install 15 beaver DAM analogs and 25 engineered wood structures along 700 feet of the middle creek primary channel and 800 feet of secondary channels. The offchannel rearing pond will provide noflow rearing habitat and the beaver DAM analogs and wood structures will provide slow water rearing habitat sort spawning gravels and increase connectivity with the secondary channels and the floodplain. Additionally native vegetation will be planted in the floodplain to restore the health and function of the riparian corridor.
