Description

The following scope and budget are being provided by the western maryland resource conservation and development council (WMRCD) to the U.S. Fish and wildlife SERVICE, chesapeake BAY field office (SERVICE) to assist in strategic habitat restoration and conservation planning and survey, project construction, administrative support, and project inspection of restoration projects as outlined below. The SERVICE and U.S. Army garrison fort george G. Meade (FMMD) have entered into an agreement to implement the construction of stream restoration project(S) located on fort george G. Meade (FMMD), in anne arundel county maryland. The scope of this project will include the construction of a stream restoration project(S) of two unnamed tributaries to severn run that was previously designed under a separate scope of work. Successful completion of this project(S) will assist FMMD in meeting sediment reduction total maximum daily load (TMDL) goals as required under the FMMD municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit and support natural resource program priorities objectives for stream and riparian habitats (i.e., normal, healthy ranges for mid-atlantic forested streams with respect to temperature, acidity, turbidity, velocity, and connectivity with the flood plain). Nearly 85% of the fggm watershed drains into two streams that flow on to the patuxent research refuge (PRR) and into the little patuxent river. The remaining 15% of the fggm watershed flows into the headwaters of severn run, a tributary to the severn river, which flows directly into the chesapeake BAY. Severn run also contains the last reproducing brook trout population in marylands coastal plain and is historic spawning habitat for anadromous fish. Following the completion of phase II of this project, WMRCD will use agreement funds to begin work on phase II of the project. This effort includes FT. Meade stream restoration phase II and III, which entails assessing, designing, and constructing one or more stream restoration projects. The design build project(S) is located on fort george G. Meade (FMMD), in anne arundel county maryland.
