Description
The project involves removing approximately five miles of outdated four strand barbed wire fences that no longer serve any purpose for the tribe and impede wildlife movement and pose a significant collision and mortality risk to greater sage grouse an ecologically and culturally important species. By dismantling these antiquated fences the project will improve landscape connectivity for sagebrush dependent wildlife. The removed materials will be repurposed to reconnect an existing exclosure on the lakes west side securing the area against grazing incursions. The recovered materials will also be utilized for future maintenance of the reservation boundary fence and grazing exclosures. This initiative not only streamlines and secures the tribes fence network but also benefits sagebrush dependent species such as greater sage grouse and pronghorn by mitigating risks of entanglement and enhancing migratory connectivity. The tribe will continue to monitor the condition and function of the reservations fences as part of ongoing resource protection efforts. Overall this project addresses threats from barriers to movement by sagebrush dependent species and incompatible grazing practices thereby contributing to the conservation of sagebrush shrublands
